EFP and EL team with UEFA to monitor game integrity

European football's governing body, UEFA, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the European State Lotteries and Toto Association (EL) and the European Football Pool (EFP) to monitor football betting with the aim of ensuring the continued integrity of European football.

The partners will establish an information system highlighting irregular betting patterns for UEFA competition matches, including the UEFA Intertoto Cup (UIC). The data will allow UEFA to take measures prior to a fixture if necessary or to investigate conduct connected with UEFA rules and regulations. They have also agreed to discuss a common UEFA/EL Code of Conduct for football in relation to betting.

The European Football Pool has signaled its continued commitment to the UEFA Intertoto Cup (UIC) for the coming 2006 season, despite a new UIC format that may be introduced next season. EFP member lottery organizations retain sports betting customers over the summer off-season by providing games based on fixtures in the UIC. The three top teams in the UIC qualify for the first round of the UEFA Cup.

About EL
The European State Lotteries and Toto Association (EL) is an independent European association composed of state lottery and toto companies established in Europe.

About the EFP
The European Football Pool is an independent European association of sports betting companies established in Europe to organize and administer the lottery part of the UEFA Intertoto Cup as a competition partner.

Legal note
For the avoidance of doubt, this Memorandum is entirely without prejudice to any right that UEFA may have, and/or any obligation that EL/EFP may have, arising as a matter of law or otherwise, in relation to the disclosure of such information.

Neither EL/EFP nor UEFA intends this Memorandum of Understanding to constitute a legally binding agreement and each acknowledges that it serves no purpose other than to clarify the circumstances in which EL is willing voluntarily to provide betting-related information to UEFA.
